Andrews Campaign Left Wondering #WheresWendzel?

ST. JOSEPH, MI — Democratic candidate for state rep in the 79th, Joey Andrews reports today that a candidate forum for the state representatives of the 79th has been canceled because his opponent, Pauline Wendzel, declined the invitation from the League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties, Michigan.

“It’s unsurprising that not one Republican seeking to represent the 79th district has agreed to debate their opponent, particularly considering what would be required of them to do so; an explanation for failing public schools, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and a culture of catering to special interests in Lansing. I was looking forward to the candidate forums planned for the month of October because it would have given me a chance to answer questions directly from community leaders in a public setting,” stated Andrews, after confirmation from the League of Women Voters that the forum had been canceled.

After winning the Democratic primary, the Andrews campaign has knocked thousands of doors, what Andrews himself describes as “front porch politics.” The team continues to create opportunities to speak to voters about the values they want to see represented in the Michigan state legislature. “Our campaign wants to win, but we want to do so with accountability and transparency with our community. This requires public and accessible debates on a variety of issues, so our neighbors know exactly who they’re voting for. We can’t do politics as usual: in the dark, as far from the public as possible. That time is over.”

In the interest of fairness and transparency, the Andrews campaign has made known their desire for multiple debates, with specific attention paid to energy, education, and healthcare. “I think every voter in the 79th district deserves candidates for office who are willing to speak directly with their constituents in a variety of public settings,” said Andrews. “I know that I personally want voters to see the unique policy platform our team has created, with positions on anything from Michigan farming to clean energy. We believe our platform has a real opportunity to bring our district together, crossing communal boundaries and party lines. The time is now for openness and transparency, not the backroom, closed-door politics that’s exclusively for Lansing insiders.”

Andrews was born and raised in St. Joseph where he graduated from Lake Michigan Catholic High School before earning degrees in history and music from Carson-Newman University in Tennessee. He went on to earn his law degree from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. In 2015 he co-founded Parasol Solar, LLC and since then, has become an advocate for solar energy and environmental causes in the area.
